The Newmarket Citizens’ Band, along with the Canadian Band Association – Ontario, will host a community band weekend tomorrow to Sunday.
The event will take place at the Newmarket Theatre and is attracting musicians from across the province. Up to 100 attendees are expected to participate in rehearsals Oct. 4, under the batons of eight well-known conductors.
The theme for this event is Under the Trading Tree, symbolized by a sculpture created by artist Lynda Baird in 1988. It depicts the band assembled underneath a tree in 1883. The sculpture represents both the history of the Town of Newmarket as an early trading centre and the role of music in the community.
The band currently has more than 60 members and is dedicated to providing a rich musical experience in a relaxing and supportive environment.
